Inn Above Tide, Sausalito

By Laura van Hoff

All of the Juicy Hotel ingredients and more are here for the perfect San Francisco date night getaway. Perhaps most appealing are the gorgeous postcard views of the San Francisco skyline and new Bay Bridge from no less than four sumptuous, private waterside perches: a super-deep two person soaking tub, an outdoor deck hanging over the bay with a perfect picnic table and chaise lounge, a super comfy King sized bed and a snuggly sofa by a wood burning fireplace facing the view. The Inn Above Tide is an extra Juicy hotel, perfect to enjoy San Francisco views in luxurious privacy.

All rooms afford San Francisco views across the Bay, but the suite views really sing and are well worth the extra cost. The Panorama Suite, Vista Suite and Penthouse offer unparalleled views and enough space to spread and out get comfortable. Each has a very comfortable work area, living area, enormous bathrooms with a separate super-deep, jetted soaking tub and walk in shower for two, wood burning fireplaces and a stylish, coastal vibe. Staff is happy to replenish your wood any time you need it. The combination of a fireplace, postcard views, the shimmering bay alive with pelicans gliding past your deck, seals playfully splashing around, ferry boats docking next door and the ever changing light show of the sky over the City and bridge is enough to keep you fully entertained for days. I declared a number of times that I'd be perfectly happy to live in the Panorama Suite for the rest of my life. It's that good.

A generous, complimentary continental breakfast is served in the cozy drawing room off the lobby or delivered to your room on request. The deck is a perfect place to settle in for breakfast and coffee to watch the City and water life wake up. An excellent complimentary wine and cheese selection is available in the evenings in the drawing room which you can take up to your room to snuggle up and enjoy by your waterside fire. There is no on-site restaurant but there are plenty of great options just outside the door. The charming town of Sausalito surrounds this private little oasis tucked back on a cul-de-sac in such a way you really aren't even aware it's there from your nest. Walk out the front door and you're right in the middle of town with art galleries and restaurants galore to explore.

A very cool perk is the ferry dock just next door. You can easily hop a ferry to San Francisco for work or play and skip the hassle of driving in. Ferries deliver you to downtown San Francisco on a regular basis. It's a fun 20 minute ride.

The property exudes gracious, quiet charm and privacy. The staff is warm and friendly, eager to do anything they can to make your stay comfortable. It feels a lot like staying in a friend's house. It's a small, privately owned property with an individual style and personality so it doesn't feel crowded or impersonal. It's an absolutely special little gem of a date night getaway around the City by the Bay. In this case, it's literally ON the Bay, a unique and perfectly executed delight.
