Juicy Tidbits

What's Juicy..."Water, water, everywhere from this waterfront perch. This iconic hotel has been a staple of the Hong Kong hotel scene for decades and a flagship property for the brand for good reason. It sits on pillars making it feel as if it's floating on the water much like the boats zipping past at eye level. There are no better waterfront rooms in Hong Kong from which to watch the nightly laser light show and certainly none beat these to feel part of the bustling watery world nearly within reach from your comfy chaise lounge by the window in your private viewing perch.

Rooms are comfortable and service is friendly, but the deal here is the water action and location. Consider the rest gravy.  The concierge lounge lets you "buy in" for the day or your stay which is a nice feature. It sits on the second floor overlooking the lobby lounge below and the water beyond. It's got free WiFi, complimentary cocktail and an expansive appetizer hour. You could easily make a meal out of the cocktail hour here and catch up on work or plotting your next moves.

Super popular Nobu resides here, with excellent harbor views and a luscious fantasea decor. Thousands of sea urchin spines hang from the ceiling, reclaimed wood serves as the bar and bamboo inlaid bubbles guide you in. It's been thoughtfully designed to mimic the harbor outside and makes you feel part of the watery world just beyond the glass. The food is stellar (as it is in every Nobu location I've tried) with plenty to offer for vegetarians beyond the spectacular Japanese creations.

The location is also great for exploring the Kowloon side, but an easy walk to the Ferry for Hong Kong side fun. The Walk of the Stars is just outside, a nod to Hollywood Blvd. honoring Asian film celebs. It's a fun walk along the water especially on a pretty day. The Hong Kong Museum is nearby as well and plenty of shopping and restaurants just out the door." ~Laura van Hoff, Editor, JuicyHotels.com

Travel + Leisure says..."The infinity pool on the terrace of the new $12,468-a-night Presidential Suite at the InterContinental appears to share water with Victoria Harbour. (If only the pool had regular edges, you could rest your scotch on one of them as you gazed through the mist at those luminous skyscrapers.) The 7,000-square-foot suite comes with two 24-hour butlers, a gymnasium, and high-tech toilet seats that rise automatically when you enter the room. This over-the-top lair is just one of the impressive additions to the property, which has undergone an overhaul to stay competitive in the city’s heated hotel market. There’s also a fleet of butlers for guests in the 495 spiffed-up rooms (with iPod docks and Bose surround sound), and outposts of Nobu and Alain Ducasse’s Spoon. One thing didn’t require improvement: the hotel’s unrivaled views of Hong Kong." ~From Travelandleisure.com

Conde Nast Traveler says..."This "jewel of hotels" is built on stilts over Victoria Harbour—"I enjoyed the Kowloon location; it's much calmer and prettier than Hong Kong." The lobby's three-story windows offer "stunning views of the harbor," while "great dining options" include outposts of Nobu and Spoon by Alain Ducasse. Rooms blend contemporary design with Asian accents—gold and rust-colored Chinese tassled bed throws—and come with 24-hour butler service and "a wall of windows that offers breathtaking views." Enjoy the "greatest breakfast buffet you will ever find" at Harbourside, directly on the harbor's edge." ~From CondeNastTraveler.com
