This hotel says...

Amansara, the former guesthouse of King Sihanouk, is situated on the edge of Siem Reap just 10 minutes from the entrance to the Angkor UNESCO World Heritage Site. It derives its name from the twinning of two Sanskrit words – aman (peace) and apsara (the heavenly nymphs of ancient Hindu mythology). Set in a garden compound, the 24-suite resort has the ambience of a private home and is the ideal base for travellers seeking to explore Khmer culture and the majestic ruins of Angkor. A variety of temple tours and cultural walks is available as part of the guest experience.

Juicy Tidbits

Travel + Leisure says..."Amansara used to be the guest villa of King Norodom Sihanouk, so you know you’re in for private luxury. Located a mere ten minutes away from the magnificent Angkor Wat, the largest Hindu temple in the world, the 24-suite hotel features swimming and lap pools, a spa, a rooftop terrace, high-end gallery gift shop, library, and gorgeous outdoor dining room, which offeres both traditional Khmer and western cuisines. The aesthetics are simple, with a focus on clean lines and muted tones; the rooms are done in grey terrazzo, dark timber and ivory. It’s just the retreat you need to explore the amazing world of Angkor Wat." ~From Travelandleisure.com

Travel + Leisure says..."As the former guest villa of Cambodian royal King Norodom Sihanouk, this serene, all-suite retreat was once an oasis for luminaries including Jacqueline Kennedy, Charles de Gaulle, and Peter O’Toole. Twelve of the 24 earthy suites—all done up in timber, stucco, and terrazzo—are set around a verdant, central courtyard, while the other half have private plunge pools. The retreat’s central house is a chic living room, regularly replenished with freshly baked cookies and a steady supply of wine and cheese. Its jasmine-scented spa, flanked by an intricatesandstone bas-relief, is equipped with four state-of-the-art rooms, each with a steam bath, shower, and private sound system. For an exclusive look at the nearby Khmer landmarks, Amansara will arrange for you to head out on a guided tour at dawn or dusk on one of its custom-fitted remorks (cycle-rickshaws).It’ll feel like you have the ancient sites almost to yourself." ~From Travelandleisure.com

Conde Nast Traveler says..."The former guesthouse of King Sihanouk is “like a home away from home.” Hosting the likes of former French President Charles de Gaulle, and Jacqueline Kennedy, the classic 1960s structure is in an “excellent location,” minutes from Angkor Archaeological Park. Accommodations include “lovely low-slung chalets” done in minimalist gray and white, and public areas with white lotus blossoms and white orchids. With 23-foot-high ceilings, the dining room offers “the best cheesecake in Asia,” as well as traditional Khmer cuisine and fresh produce like dragon fruit and mangosteen. “The staff are always great.” Cool off in a slate pool." ~From CondeNastTraveler.com

Travel + Leisure says..."Set on a prime location along the Grand Canal (but still north of Piazza San Marco, away from the crowds), Ca’ Sagredo Hotel is a landmarked 15th-century palazzo artfully converted into a 42-room hotel. Paintings by Renaissance and Baroque masters—Giambattista Tiepolo, Pietro Longhi—cover the walls, Murano-glass chandeliers hang from the ceilings, and the spacious guest rooms come with tufted-velvet headboards and marble baths. Travel + Leisure says..."Two movable pedestrian bascule bridges provide access from the bustling waterfront to this quiet, mansard-roofed hotel on its own private quay. The sumptuous interiors here (all redone in 2008) include dark-wood antiques, blue-and-white Dutch crockery, and richly patterned fabrics that evoke the region's raw, exotic blooms. The 120 large and luxurious rooms, many with striped wallpaper and botanical prints, have one-of-a-kind artisanal pieces, like traditionally forged iron lamps and whimsical chandeliers made with dangling Delft saucers. The staff is warm and welcoming, whether they're seating you at a handsome secretarial desk for check-in, delivering refreshments poolside, pampering you with African-infused treatments at the spa, or arranging your sail around the harbor on the hotel's own 56-foot yacht." -From Travel + Leisure

Cape Grace believes that ensuring the health, safety, security and environmental impact of each of its employees, guests, visitors, contractors, and suppliers is critical to the success of the business. Health, safety, security and responsible tourism and environmental practices are adhered to according to local legislation and statutory requirements.

To achieve these standards and look beyond the obvious, we founded the Cape Grace Planet Committee. The committee's main goal is to drive environmental awareness through the support of responsible tourism practices, while simultaneously maintaining exceptional service levels and guest satisfaction.

Not only do we want you to have every indulgent experience imaginable at Cape Grace, but we want to make sure this is achieved responsibly.

ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL:

We acknowledge that as a result of the legislative, social and economic inequalities of the past, we have an obligation to address the differences that exist in South Africa. We strive to effect broad based economic transformation through training and skills development, enterprise development, job creation and procurement.

We are committed to promoting a better quality of life for all with particular attention to social integration, especially with issues such as health, child protection and women empowerment.

The personal well-being of all our staff is very important, which is why the Peer Educators program is in place. Certain employees have been selected to become Peer Educators in terms of Cape Grace's Employee Wellbeing Program. Their duties include but are not limited to initiating discussions regarding staff welfare; identifying any well-being issues related to HIV/AIDS and initiating and arranging staff training with regards to HIV/AIDS.

Salt is a registered non-profit and public benefit community outreach organisation, affiliated to the Assembly of God Church in the Cape Town suburb of Table View. They work with other faith based organisations in order to bring change and uplift the local community. Cape Grace has chosen to financially support this organisation in their various feeding projects.

We've also aligned ourselves with the Desmond Tutu HIV /Aids Foundation which is run in association with the Desmond Tutu HIV Centre at the University of Cape Town's Institute of Infectious Disease and Molecular Medicine. By using a combination of academic expertise and social activism, the foundation is involved in a number of initiatives. Cape Grace is proud to be associated with an organisation that tackles HIV/AIDS head-on.

Juicy Tidbits

Travel + Leisure says..."It’s no wonder that Capella chose the recently revitalized Sentosa for its Asian debut. The 30-acre island off Singapore’s southern coast already has six comfortable hotels, but none have this form of colonial grace (public spaces are set in sprawling 19th-century converted barracks) and modern accents (two Foster & Partners–designed wings made of glass and steel). Guest rooms feature teak-lined doors and windows and crisp white-on-white baths, with some surprising layouts: top-floor corner suites have semicircular bedrooms and balconies. The outdoor dining terraces look out over the bi-level infinity pools, which seem to slip into the South China Sea." ~From Travelandleisure.com
