This hotel says...

Surrounded by undulating olive groves and overlooking the island of Spetses and the Argosaronic Gulf beyond, Amanzoe is just a 10-minute drive from the tavernas and vibrant life of Porto Heli. The road approaching Amanzoe ascends to the porte-cochere, a grand marble-clad edifice which serves as the entrance. Beyond lies the hilltop resort, arranged around an expansive reflection pool with spectacular views of the sea.

Juicy Tidbits

Conde Nast Traveler says..."The specs: Thirty-eight hilltop pavilions outside the yachting resort of Porto Heli. The property is surrounded by olive groves and working farms and has magnificent sea views. The look: Mediterranean minimalism by Ed Tuttle, the architect behind many an Aman property. The light-filled, cathedral-ceilinged pavilions are completely private, built around courtyards with private pools. Oak-paneled interiors have sliding wooden doors and matte-finished marble floors. The experience: Aside from visits to the Mycenaean ruins or a stylish harborside restaurant, guests tend to hole up and take advantage of this destination resort's many attractions, including an eight-treatment-room spa and a private beach club reached via the hotel's Mercedes SUV. In addition to a sandy strand, the club has a full menu of water sports/boating activities, two freshwater pools, an excellent restaurant, a bar, and vast terraces with loungers. " ~From cntraveler.com

Travel + Leisure says..."If the ancient Greeks designed a city on a hill today, with all the innovations of the modern world, it would probably look and feel like Amanzo’e. Its stone columns, acres of olive trees, and panoramic views of azure seas—not to mention its 38 residence-like, plunge-pooled guest pavilions, private beach club, three 90-foot-long green-marble-lined pools, and 12,000-square-foot spa—would make any returning Homeric hero weep. Add to that its covetable position on the Peloponnese peninsula’s sun-drenched southern coast, known for secluded pebbled beaches and easy access from Athens (the capital is just over two hours away by car or hydrofoil), and you’re well on your way to Elysium." ~From Travelandleisure.com

Juicy Tidbits

Conde Nast Traveler says..."The specs: A 122-room high-design hotel in a 1970s-era brick building (formerly a public library) with a superb location on the Prinsengracht, one of the chicest canals in silk-stocking western Amsterdam. The property includes a terrific spa with sauna, steam room, and fitness center. The look: A love-it- or-loathe-it mashup of motifs from Dutch designer Marcel Wanders, dubbed by one critic "the Lady Gaga of the design world." Inspired by Holland's seventeenth-century Golden Age, the no-holds-barred decor includes a navigation-chart rug and red tulip chairs in reception and bold graphics in the guest rooms. The experience: An instant hit with international travelers in the design fields, the Andaz Amsterdam has a pleasant low-key buzz, its atmosphere more hip twenty-first-century auberge than absolutely fabulous boutique hotel. Rooms, though dressed to the nines, are comfortable, well lit, and wonderfully functional, with amenities including iPod docks, espresso machines, electric kettles, and lots of books about Amsterdam. Charming young Dutch staff check you in on a tablet. The excellent restaurant emphasizes seasonal local produce. " ~From cntraveler.com

Travel + Leisure says..."The latest project from Dutch wild child Marcel Wanders—who’s been called the Lady Gaga of design—is, of all places, a former public library. But walking through his dreamlike interiors you would never believe it: quirky touches playfully reimagine many of Holland’s icons (tulips; shipping maps; wooden clogs), while the country’s signature delft blue appears on custom rugs, wallpapers, and hand-painted sinks. A feature we loved: the 40-piece, avant-garde video art collection displayed on screens throughout the hotel comes courtesy of a partnership with the newly reopened Stedelijk Museum nearby." ~From Travelandleisure.com

This hotel says...

Nestled in a confluence of three rich river valleys, amid picturesque hillsides and stunning ridges in the heart of the Mantiqueira Mountains, Botanique Hotel & Spa is enveloped and surrounded by lush, mid-tropical Atlantic forests, 1.200m above sea level in the heart of the Bairro dos Mellos, just 12 kms from Campos do Jordao. The hotel is targeted for those who seek peaceful moments, integrated with nature. It provides a unique environment of authentic and exclusive Brazilian Design, Culture and Cuisine – a place that seamlessly merges the luxuries of today and creates a modern retreat in the countryside.

Juicy Tidbits

Conde Nast Traveler says..."The specs: Eleven villas and six suites in the Mantiqueira Mountains, 100 miles north of São Paulo. Amenities include personal butler service, guided birding expeditions, and beds with 600-thread-count sheets. The look: Rural Brazil for the 0.01 percent. It has a pitched-roof contemporary design with 120-year-old reclaimed wood beams, chocolate slate from a local mine, natural stone, bespoke mahogany furniture, and glass walls that overlook expansive kitchen gardens and forested hills. The experience: Your personal butler will show you to your room and help arrange activities such as horseback riding and lessons in capoeira (Brazilian martial arts)—or leave you free to wander the winding paths to the rock-lined pool after presenting you with a loaner smartphone on which you can call for service at any hour. Meals are a particular highlight, served in a ridgetop restaurant with 180-degree views, the better to appreciate locally inspired dishes like pupunha-palm-heart ravioli with mushrooms and tucupi reduction. Enjoy an artisanal cachac?a or a 1957 Dunhill cigar as a pianist plays a few tunes. " ~From cntraveler.com

Travel + Leisure says..."High in the mountains of Vale dos Mellos, 160 miles northwest of São Paulo, sits a stone-and-glass lodge conceived to showcase the best of the country. There’s the wine cellar (all Brazilian); the food (farm-to-fork); and the furnishings (sourced by Adélia Borges, the country’s leading design authority). The six suites and 11 villas are built with reclaimed wood and have terraces that overlook the valley. But this is not luxury to satisfy all tastes—floorboards are rough, bathrooms doorless, and décor is on the spare side. Still, the range of activities—horseback riding, capoeira, cooking classes—are enough to keep the most restless of guests happy." ~From Travelandleisure.com

Juicy Tidbits

Conde Nast Traveler says..."The specs: A new high-rise with 85 exquisitely appointed rooms and suites in Knightsbridge, one block from Hyde Park and steps from Harvey Nichols and Harrods. The property includes five subterranean floors with a spa and pool, a 47-seat cinema, and an Italian restaurant. The look: Designer-chic masculine grandeur, from the cavernous lobby where stubble-bearded fashionistas, their bare ankles peeping out below narrow black suits, sip espressos, to the guest room landings' lustrous tropical hardwood walls banded with silver, inspired by Bulgari's silversmith origins. The resplendent pool area's gilded tiles are worthy of a Roman emperor. The experience: A friendly welcome at check-in warms up the lobby, and from there you can savor an Italian interpretation of English tea in the adjacent lounge. Next door is Il Bar, with cocktails inspired by Bulgari perfumes, and down a wide spiral staircase is Il Ristorante, serving contemporary Italian cuisine. Guest rooms have walls sheathed in silver-gray silk, silver detailing on the side tables, and generous bottles of Bulgari products in the extra-luxurious marble bathrooms. " ~From cntraveler.com

Travel + Leisure says..."For the opening of Bulgari’s third property, the brand spared no expense: lacquered mahogany; polished black granite; antique jewelry on display throughout its public spaces. A stone’s throw from Hyde Park in tony Knightsbridge, this gem fits right in with the haute boutiques up and down the block. The 85 rooms and suites are just as grand, with their onyx baths, vintage Moroccan carpets, and silver brocade beds. At turndown, you’ll find your butler has left Amedei Toscano Black chocolates on the pillow. Downstairs, Il Bar will quickly become your favorite cocktail lounge—order a Morello-cherry Bellini and take in the titanium-clad surroundings. " ~From Travelandleisure.com
