Juicy Tidbits

Conde Nast Traveler says..."On a Pacific cove tucked into a mountainside, this "hidden gem" has a tiered layout with views of the ocean and the tropical forest. A variety of "immaculate terra-cotta-colored rooms" have ocean views, garden terraces, locally crafted furniture, and hammocks. (For extra pampering, suites and casitas have either plunge pools or outdoor whirlpools.) The main restaurant, 1492, serves dishes with Costa Rican influences. Swing by Harry's Bar for the signature cocktail, Harry's Own, made with brandy, KahluÂa, vanilla ice cream, and coconut milk. "Engaging and friendly staff provide first-class service." Activities range from zip-lining to golf, or you can enjoy the "very relaxing infinity pool."" ~From CondeNastTraveler.com

We are working hard to put our aspirations into action and make a meaningful impact on conservation and community development in the Matemwe area.

Some of our actions at Matemwe include:
Environmentally friendly waste management and recycling both at the Lodge and the surrounding community.
Energy saving practices
Local procurement of materials and food.
Matemwe and its guests support the school in Kigomani, the neighbouring village, by donating books and equipment through the Pack for a Purpose initiative. Please see their website if you’d like to know more.
We also assist in financing classrooms for the school and sponsor promising students for further education.
Like all Asilia camps and lodges, we offset the carbon emissions from our fossil fuel consumption through a local community forestation program in Tanzania and investments in renewable energy sources.

How This Juicy Hotel Benefits Its Local Community

Our goal as Asilia is to be a role model in sustainable tourism. At the heart of our organisation is the conviction that world-class travel can go hand in hand with improving livelihoods and conservation of nature. We strive to create a lasting, positive impact everywhere we operate. We believe in better.

Any sustainable contribution must ultimately begin with oneself. This means we buy locally where possible. It means we reduce our footprint by limiting fossil fuel and use sustainable energy sources such as the sun, recycling water and reducing waste. The remainder of our carbon footprint is offset by supporting local forest projects.

Asilia is proud to be the first travel company in Africa to achieve the highest 5 star GIIRS rating and B-Corporationstatus. And yet, we trust we do even more. By being creative and developing new models for travel we try to further increase benefits for nature and local people.
