This hotel says...

Situated in the 50 000-acre Mara Naboisho Conservancy on the eastern fringes of the Mara/Serengeti eco-system, Naboisho Camp offers a unique opportunity for travellers to experience one of the most important conservation initiatives in East Africa. The eight tented suites offer both en-suite bathrooms and king-size beds, with a charming blend of East African style and warm safari hospitality.

Set in the heart of the conservancy, Naboisho Camp offers outstanding game viewing: aside from herds of antelope the area is home to large numbers of predators, including high concentrations of lion and cheetah.

Daily game drives and visits to local communities offer guests a unique insight into this remarkable corner of Kenya, and as the camp is situated on private land both night-drives and eco-sensitive off-road excursions are possible. So too are walking safaris, and the guides at Naboisho are renowned for their tracking skills. For more adventurous travellers overnight ‘fly-camping’ is also offered.

WHY CHOOSE NABOISHO CAMP?

• More exclusive and private than the adjacent Maasai Mara.
• High concentration of wildlife provides exceptional game viewing all year round.
• Renowned for adventure walks with professional walking guides and overnight flycamping in the bush.
• Enriched safari experience for families.
• Ground breaking example of tourism benefiting conservation and community.

Our goal as Asilia is to be a role model in sustainable tourism. At the heart of our organisation is the conviction that world-class travel can go hand in hand with improving livelihoods and conservation of nature. We strive to create a lasting, positive impact everywhere we operate. We believe in better.

Any sustainable contribution must ultimately begin with oneself. This means we buy locally where possible. It means we reduce our footprint by limiting fossil fuel and use sustainable energy sources such as the sun, recycling water and reducing waste. The remainder of our carbon footprint is offset by supporting local forest projects.

Asilia is proud to be the first travel company in Africa to achieve the highest 5 star GIIRS rating and B-Corporation status. And yet, we trust we do even more. By being creative and developing new models for travel we try to further increase benefits for nature and local people. The Mara Naboisho Conservancy is an example of this positive force made a reality.

How This Juicy Hotel Benefits Its Local Community

We invite you to join us at Naboisho Camp during your Kenyan safari as we seek to make a positive and sustainable impact through responsible tourism. Each guest bednight in the conservancy ensures the conservation of the nature, the wildlife and the equally important socio-cultural heritage of the Maasai culture.

Naboisho Camp is situated within the Mara Naboisho Conservancy, a ground-breaking co-operative development model. Asilia Africa is proud to be one of the driving forces behind the conservancy, the creation of which saw over 500 Masai landowners coming together to contribute their land to conservation. The conservancy fees provide the Maasai community with a sustainable livelihood and ensure the conservation of the wildlife in this vital corridor of the Masai Mara ecosystem. In addition to the conservancy’s role in conservation it also provides steady and sustainable employment which it is hoped will lead to an improved standard of living for the community as a whole.

Furthermore it offers additional benefits like health care, clean energy and empowerment of the local people through education and skills training.

Some of our other actions at Naboisho Camp include:â¨

  • Kenya Wildlife Trust has formed the Mara Lion Project in order to establish lion numbers across this ecosystem in addition to identifying and mitigating the threats facing the population. The project has “science driving conservation” at its heart and its members are currently developing research questions to better understand the Mara lions.â¨
  • The conservancy revolves around the Koiyaki Guiding School which annually trains over 20 local Maasai to become professional guides. All of Naboisho Camp’s guides are graduates of the Koiyaki Guiding School and we are proud to employ one of the first female graduates on the guiding team.â¨
  • Naboisho Camp aspires to leave behind nothing but footprints. Sustainable operations include recycling rainwater and all waste products.â¨
  • Naboisho and its guests support the local community, by donating books and equipment through the Pack for a Purpose initiative, for example the Mbitin Primary School. Please visit Pack for a Purpose if you would like to know more about this initiative and how you can contribute.

This hotel says...

On the banks of the Talek River in the heart of Kenya¹s iconic Maasai Mara, perfectly situated for guests to appreciate the spectacle of the annual migration, you¹ll find the charming Rekero Camp. True to Asilia¹s philosophy of touching the earth lightly, Rekero is closed for two months each year to allow the natural landscape to recover, ensuring a pristine wilderness experience when guests return for the next dramatic season.

Rekero is open from June to March each year, ensuring guests can appreciate the peak of the annual migration. The camp sleeps just 22 guests at any one time, accommodated in nine stylish tents, of which two are family units.

The camp evokes the romance of an African safari, with canvas suites and wonderful views of the surrounding game-filled plains. Guides from local communities ensure guests enjoy a unique perspective on the wilderness that is the Maasai Mara.

How This Juicy Hotel Benefits Its Local Community

There is little in this great wilderness that we have not come to know in the three generations of the Beaton family that have lived here. Reinforced by a two generation partnership with the Looseyia family we have learned to respect this land and within that have delivered one of Africa’s finest marriages of wildlife, culture and visitors.

The success of Rekero is partly due its strong relationship with its neighbours. This strong bond and our successes in poverty reduction has been recognised by some of the world’s leading conservationists. By using tourism to reduce poverty and introduce the benefits of conservation to communities has to be our proudest achievement.

HOW WE CHOOSE OUR PROJECTS

Bringing together a community that believes in better, we aim to involve people and institutions with a deeper interest in Africa and achieving a shared vision for the areas we operate in.

Juicy Tidbits

Travel + Leisure says..."It’s hard to get much closer to the powdery slopes of Vail than at The Sebastian’s Base Camp ski center. And once you’re there, it’s easy to actually get going, thanks to the many valets who tend to everything from your car to your bags to your bikes in the summer months. When you’re not sashaying down the mountain, take comfort upstairs. All 107 guest rooms aremore contemporary than rustic, with polished wood headboards, chocolate-colored accents, and beige carpets. There’s also the modest Bloom Spa; Leonora, a new bistro and tapas bar inspired by high alpine cultures around the world; andFrost Bar, which pours a robust selection of scotches. ~From Travelandleisure.com

Travel + Leisure says..."The new Sebastian hotel encompasses 100 rooms, seven suites, and, should you prefer more permanent lodgings, a 36-unit private residence club. Not unexpectedly, interiors are decked out with exposed wood beams, natural-stone countertops and flooring, gas fireplaces, and the now de rigueur iPod and iPad docking stations. But the Sebastian hotel’s trump card is its proximity to the slopes. After powering through the powder, guests can retreat to the property to sip smoky scotch at Frost bar; snack on gourmet cheeses and breads from the Market deli; or dine on seasonally influenced, farm-to-table food at Block 16. The concierge service and staff (including an on-the-mountain valet) can’t be beat" ~From Travelandleisure.com.

Conde Nast Traveler says..."In the heart of Vail Village, this slopeside resort, which opened in early 2011, has a “homey, welcoming atmosphere yet is still so elegant.” Grounds include a mountain-view pool, fire pits, and hot tubs, while guest rooms are “made to feel like the house you dream of,” with custom furnishings and stone-floor bathrooms. “The world-class art displayed throughout is more than reason enough for a visit.” The bar Frost serves tapas and a “remarkable selection” of scotch and tequila. Inspired by Napa, Block 16’s menu is seasonal and employs ingredients from Vail Valley, with wines from around the world. “The caring staff treated us like royalty from the second we arrived.” Kids can take cooking lessons in the resort’s kitchens." ~From CondeNastTraveler.com
